Title: Semi-permanent Ice House, Germany
Client: Facts + Ficton
Category: international
Location: Frankfurt and Oberhausen, Germany
Description:

“Can you build an ice house?” was the initial enquiry sent to info@theicebox.com by Facts + Fiction, a live communication company based in Cologne.  Within 24 hours Icebox urgently responded by flying to Cologne for a face to face detailed brief.  The brief was to build a life size house, made entirely of ice.  The ice house would be the first to be built in the world in non-arctic temperatures.

The ice houses were part of a national marketing campaign for ING-Diba which involved six ice houses across Germany, over an eight week period.  With a visible public presence, ING-Diba wanted to increase brand awareness and entice as many visitors as possible and get enquiries about their mortgages.

With four German based ice companies competing for the project, Icebox successfully secured the contract to create two ice houses, one in Frankfurt, the other in Oberhausen.  With this success Icebox was to undertake their largest project ever – a project where the entire brief and project guidelines were in German.

More than 140,000 visitors came to the ice houses over a period of 36 days – “the number exceeded all expectations and forecasts by more than three times” said Jorg Krauthauser, Director of the Facts + Fictions Agency. 10% of the visitors made a serious enquiry about ING-Diba products.
